The purpose of study was to designed to investigate the effects of 8weeks of general straight leg raise(GSLR) and modified straight leg raise(MSLR) exercise program on electromyography(EMG) activation and balance ability of hip joint in handball, basketball and volleyball players. Twenty eight collegiate athletes were volunteered to participate in the study as subjects and were divided in two groups such as GSLR group(n=14) and MSLR group(n=14). Electromyography activation, static balance ability and dynamic balance ability were assessed before, after 3weeks and after 8weeks of the training program. The data obtained at pre-, mid-, and post-test were compared among two groups and between three tests utilizing ANCOVA. The results were as follows: 1. EMG activation on dynamic balance activity showed significant interactions between group and test in adductor magnus muscle(p<.05) and tensor facia rata muscle(p<.01). Also, there main effect of test and two groups. 2. Static balance ability and dynamic balance ability was not main effect of two groups and test. Also, there was no significant interactions between group and test(p>.05). In conclusion, 8weeks of modified straight leg raise(MSLR) exercise program were effective in enhancing balance ability with electromyography activation of hip joint in athletes. This study showed possibility of hip joint muscle function , supply for a defect of GSLR exercise and a various application in rehabilitation program. Also, It will give the positive effects on performance for athletes.
