This thesis is a research on the understanding to capitalism in Yeum Sang-seup`s middle-terms novels and simultaneously have an object to show that Yeum Sang-seup had tried to find a solution to the problems due to the inflow capitalism in colonial period of Korean history. In early Yeum Sang-seup`s novels, he made a thing of selfishness, as he thought that the most important problem Chosen Nation had was that they did not control their selfishness by themselves. At the first solution to selfishness was acquiring culture, but he accepted limitations of culture to solve selfishness, then he discovered the importance capitalistic exchanges. After this Yeum made a further step for describing selfishness and capitalistic exchange. He tried the control for selfishness with ideology, especially socialism. In other words, to solve the problem of the control for selfishness, he recognized that it needed the three solutions ; love for individual level, struggle for nation level, idea(an ideal thought) for society. The last phase that Yeum attain a solution to the contradiction of capitalism was paradoxically "good intention of the capital" that imbodied by capitalist as such Duck-gi in ≪Samdae(삼대)≫ and ≪Muhwagwa (무화과)≫ .
