The “phantom of migration” is haunting today’s globalized world. In the modern society in which migration is a norm, everyone is both an immigrant and a stranger. However, distinct boundaries still separate nations and ethnicities as well as cultures and religions, and the society is still plagued by conflicts with strangers. Strangers, whom we consider immigrants as today, actually have been near us the whole time. The most intimate relationship that we have in our family was created through a marriage with a stranger, and such risky cohabitation was continued amid a patriarchal society. Stories of the Greek mythology reflect the confusion caused in the process of a patriarchal family being established. Hence, family is where we come across the origin of conflict with strangers. This article verified that problems with strangers could be solved through the process of interpreting and implementing hospitality, a long-time western cultural tradition, from today’s perspective.
