Mysticism is one of the old Christian traditions. It is a tradition in which you experience God not through the teaching of institutional Church but through meditation. The first step of this article will be analyzing the mystic experience of God that St. Paul and Korean Christian meditator Dasuk undergone. The second part will deal with the common grounds between the experiences of St. Paul and Dasuk. And the last step will be the summary of this article and end with hermeneutic reflection and conclusion. St. Paul lived in the Mediterranean 2000 years ago and Dasuk in Korea in the 20th century. Naturally, the gap between the two is profoundly wide, but the analysis will help find interesting topics for discussion. I would like to dissect it to three points.
1. St. Paul and Dasuk saw a ray of bright light when God revealed himself and that moment allow them to see their own lives as a whole just like from far above.
2. The revelation of God is a pure experience, which can never be replaced with anything. On top of that, this cannot be artificially achieved. Thus, this does not have to be proved to others.
3. The most noteworthy thing St. Paul and Dasuk share in common as to the revelation of God is the existential change that happened to them. And for them, it was an enlightenment. After the revelation, Dasuk soon realized that God had just taken over both his body and soul. In St. Paul case, he looked back on his entire life and came to understand that God actually planned to use him from the days he was in his mother’s womb.
