This article is to do research about the life and works of pasotr Choi Geo Deok(1907 1990). He, who had lived from Japanese colonial period to 1990, leaded Korean christian society’s revival. Specially he had took part in progressive social activities with conservative belief.
Choi Geo Deok could have take in charge of Meodong Church that was one of the famous churches in Korea when he was thirties. aLter he leaded Andong Church, and established Deoksu Church. He couldn’t strongly resist against Japanese rule to maintain his church, but he tried to support independent movements silently.
The theology of Choi Geo Deok was established by his variety life which experienced buddhism, taoism, and confucianism. He showed wonderful leadership with supporting younger christian pastors. That kind of features could be found in selecting successor of his church(Deoksu Church). Also Choi Geo Deok influenced many people including Yoon Bo Sun(1987 1990), who was the former president of Korea and one of the presbyteries in his church.
Choi Geo Deok also helped Arthur T. Pierson Memorial Bible Schoo l and Arthur T. Pierson Memorial Bible Seminary to be developed into Pyeongtaek University. He selected Cho Ki Hung(1932 Now) as the responsible person of the schools. With this efforts of Choi Geo Deok and Cho Ki Hung, Pyeongtaek University could be one of the influential christian universities in Korea.
