The British system of education and registration of architects has a long history beginning from the early 19th Century. In this article, we have seen that Royal Institute of British Architects played and continues to play an important role. The education board set up by RIBA in 1931 not only laid out the foundation of architect education in terms of curriculum that must be followed, but also the integration of formal education and practical training through the three part education system. The strict validation system manages to keep the number of validated schools in check, but also the standards of the graduates. The high quality of British architects is due to the clear vision of RIBA and ARB of what architects’ role should be in the society.
