Scholars and researchers, who research the field of the nonverbal communication, disagree with exactly how much one can learn from observing kinesic actions. They suggest that people communicate through media other than our words much more than we do though the words we choose. This research relates to the question `how useful is the study of nonverbal communication` The purpose of this study is to explore the communicative interaction between the teacher`s hand gesture and the learner`s emotional reaction. To achieve this purpose, the semiopragmatical approach invented by Ch. Morris is used. On the basis of this approach, I describe the expressional aspect of the teacher`s hand gesture, utterance situation, spoken items, and the learner`s reaction in class. And then I assume the semiopragmatical principle of hand gestural language. For this research three types of hand gestures (explaining gesture, emphasizing gesture, and mixed gesture) are semiotically analyzed in chapter 3. The results are as follows: 1) The hand-gestural signs have the semiopragmatical principle. 2) The explaining hand gesture and the strengthening gesture have respectively specified areas. 3) Gestural languages as well as spoken languages contribute to the interaction between the teacher and learner in class.
