This paper was written as an attempt to analyze the comparative constructions of the Korean language, particularly those consisting of `~boda der~` (~er than~) and their syntactic features. As a result, there have been found some constraints in the process of making those constructions, such as identical quantifier element condition and pairability condition. To sum up identical quantifier elements and pairability, not only must the quatifier elements in the two sentences (matrix and embedded) be identical, they must also be constituents of parallel constructions. Whenever these constraints are violated, ungrammatical sentences are derived, while there are some familiar metaphorical expressions which don`t necessarily follow them. These metaphorical (or figurative) expressions should be treated within the scope of semantics and pragmatics, if they have some common feature structures.
