4·19 Revolution began with national resistance about bio-politics of Rhee, Syng-man regime. The bio- politics premises a fear that a man can be a naked life. The naked life means lives that can be killed but can’t be sacrifices. They are double excluded in the aspects of law and religion. The exclusion is based on the special character of the violence they underwent, and a sovereign ruler prescribed this exception to them.
The bio-politics theory as a analytic tool makes possible to new analyze ‘an excluded man’. In Korean society, the men who experienced disadvantage due to the guilt-by-association system or anti-communist ideology were just exposed to the violent situation, to say nothing of condolence and compensation. They feared to announce their violent situations because of the second damage, though it was obviously prohibited by the law.
This study dealt with some works produced in 4·19 Revolution age. The works handled naked lives like traitors and people who experienced disadvantage due to the guilt-by-association system. Also the works showd intellectuals and students as sound citizens who willingly became naked lives in the age of bio-politics. And the works embodied the state of common people who had sympathy with the naked lives but criticized them when the revolution end up in failure. Authors of the works brilliantly realized the reality of the age by clarifying that people can look for the realization of politics which doesn’t based on the exception of lives only when they deny the bio-politics, warning that anyone can be a naked life under the authority. The works produced in 1950s and early 1960s are generally judged that they indulge in abstract and ideological world. But the authors found out character of the works which are correspondent with the reality along with the significance and limitation of the 4·19 Revolution.
