Summary: This study started with the awareness of matters related to how we can prepare for and organize education when we face the era of unified Korea in the future. Lately, both inside and outside the Korean Peninsula, environment for our unification has proceeded considerably. Unification can be actualized all of a sudden. To cope with the era, this author has clearly conceptualized the system and ideals of education in unified Korea macroscopically. Along with that, this researcher has figured out the direction of history education that unified Korea should pursue as a subject that can contribute to national integration. In other words, this author has considered not only the system and ideals of education but also the direction of history education in order to establish the future aspects of unified Korea in detail. For unification, not only ‘unification revolution’ to realize alternation and innovation inside North and South Korea but also integration between South and North Korea should be done altogether. For educational integration in South and North Korea, it is needed to go through a transitional period to realize alteration in the educational system of North Korea as well as grand reformation of education in ROK in order to organize our educational system newly. After the unification, the ideals of education should be reestablished as a general value system and draw an agreement from the majority of our members. History education plays the most crucial roles in integrating people in unified Korea. Therefore, after the unification, it is necessary to establish integrated history education in a new way so as to solve problems resulted from differences arising from the process of integrating South and North Korea. In unified Korea, it is needed to educate students desirably so that they can look straightly at the contemporary history of South and North Korea and recognize the merits and demerits of contemporary history in South and North Korea correctly. It is necessary to establish new insight to see both similarities and differences between South and North Korea and adopt harmonious attitudes to accept the differences and seek the similarities. Based on that, it is needed to provide history education to understand history pluralistically grounded on the multilaterality of history. Accordingly, to realize national integration in unified Korea, it is essential to provide history education about South and North Korea and also create a legitimate frame corresponding to the aspects of open as well as pluralistic society.
