Report Errors
Shortly after the outbreak of the Korean War, North Korea announced that this war was initiated by the South"s ‘Invasion of North Korea’ and claimed that their war was for national liberation. Although existing studies prove that the Korean War was started by the North"s invasion of the South under the consent of China and the Soviet Union, they do not explain specifically why North Korea had to fabricate the ‘Invasion of North Korea’ scenario. This article shows the following new historical facts and arguments. First, the ‘Invasion of North Korea’ scenario was closely related to the peace movement that was spreading rapidly throughout the whole world during that time. This peace movement, which was initiated by the Soviet Union, was making a significant contribution to the cohesion and expansion of socialist camp of the time. Second, the ‘Invasion of North Korea’ scenario was created from the idea of Stalin, who had to simultaneously proceed with peace campaign in Europe and war campaign in East Asia region. Third, fabricating the South"s invasion of the North was crucial to North Korea who had extensively accepted the Soviet Union"s peace theory before the Korean War. The ‘Invasion of North Korea’ scenario was designed by Stalin and Kim Il sung due to the political situation of the Soviet Union and North Korea.
