Subway station is not only a path of connecting and combining a various aspect of flow of city but also a critical node of underground transportation networks. And the space is regarded as a public space of integrating together with a programme of behavior which is consisted of flow of time, space and people. The aim of study is to show detailed and fundamental direction of practice when the compounded problems of subway station are resolved or approached in terms of public design. From the knowledge of social study, the space can be analysed in terms of its main purpose, such as progressional space which provides vertical or horizontal space to allow people to make move, and regulated space where people can stay in a short time of period. And these two classified way of use of space is cleary informed us that the subway station must be designed based on the property which combine two totally different property of spaces, space of rest with comport and space of transfer by recognition. However, unfortunately, most of domestic subway station are designed without consideration of these two properties and the main cause of the problem can be said to be the structural problem in terms of engineering point of view, such as unnecessary supports and curvature on the wall. Therefore, It causes a number of problems such as problem in walkway due to narrow space scaling, lack of pleasant and also inefficiency in recognition due to blocking of informations by structures. The most important rule of the fundamental direction of solution to the problem is to integrate space together with making space airy. And distinctive factors for coherence, standardization, strengthening recognition and identification must be considered respectively. And the next step is to show strategies needed when designing spacial factors such as station, stairs, aisle and toilets based on the fundamental direction. And moreover, the detailed design direction which inner space facilities such as convenience and rest facilities should have, are suggested as sub steps to be considered. And finally ways to improve efficiency of recognition of information which is mainly operated as factor to find directions, are discussed, and also deduce ways of approaching to secure publicity of subway station by making optimum change in all aspects. In terms of public design aspect, the design approach of subway station is used as a designing mean and way of integration and standardization in order to from emptiness and regularity of space but organized and synthesized way of approaching has to be performed with consideration of feature of coherence.
