This study has its purpose in categorizing leisure sports events that were used in previous studies until now, exploring factors regarding participative motives for each sports category. For this, sports categorization was conducted through previous studies and based on that, 1st and 2nd expert interviews were conducted. The results were as follows.
First, sports categories based on previous studies were sports discussed by scholars, sports for all, leisure sports, hot sports, and cool sports.
Second, there were 16 sports categories made through 1st and 2nd expert interviews and they were ball game, racket or net, water, track and field, snow, ice, mixed, gymnastics, air, martial arts, martial and competitive, nature friendly, new sports, winter, leisure, expressive, and game.
Third, after research observation was made regarding participative motives for each sports category, it was found that there were 80 studies for ball game, 28 for racket or net, 54 for water, 12 for track and field, 8 for snow, 1 for ice, 11 for mixed, 8 for gymnastics, 1 for air, 31 for martial arts, martial and competitive, 14 for nature friendly, 24 for new sports, 43 for leisure, 6 for winter, 52 for expressive, and 20 for game.
Fourth after observing participative motives for each sports category, there were 57 factors for ball game, 25 for racket or net, 44 for water, 30 for track and field, 22 for snow, 4 for ice, 17 for mixed, 11 for gymnastics, 4 for air, 44 for martial arts, martial and competitive, 31 for nature friendly, 26 for new sports, 33 for leisure, 14 winter, 64 for expressive, and 32 for game.
