The Analects-type literature in this article, not only includes different versions and annotations of the Analects, but also includes other stories of Confucius and his students which were recorded in other books but not in the Analects. There are three types of the Analects-type literature, both in the handed-down literature and the more recently discovered literature. By reviewing the substance and different forms of the three types of literature in different periods of time, we find that the first type which we called the stories, are the source of the Analects-type literature, and it took a long time for the Analects to become a fixed book. Before that, there may have been several different versions of it, and each had a different collection of Confucian stories. Due to the fact that the Analects was a collection of Confucian stories, it is easy to re-edit before it became a fixed book.
