This study sets out in the search for how theatre scripts for children should be in a way to assist elementary education. Theatre script ‘Let’s Perform in Schools’ is selected for this study as this script is considered to be useful for children’s acting. Theme, characters, conflicts and lines are examined and the findings are as follows.
Firstly, since elementary school teachers and school children are the writers of the scripts, themes and resources are approachable to children. The scripts concretely and vividly reflect children’s surroundings and their problems. Secondly, characters range from various children and adults like parents and teachers, to imaginary characters who provoke imagination and thought. Through these diverse characters, the scripts provide opportunities to reflect upon who we are as human beings are and how to live. Thirdly, dramatic events dealt with comes from not only reality but also fantasy. Furthermore, the process to put theatre on stage is included as dramatic events which entails meta-thinking process. Through placing various dramatic events to cross reality, fantasy, and meta-thinking, the scripts provides performing pleasure to travel children’s mind of reality, fantasy and meta-thinking. What is found lacking is lines. Lines need to be more refined and proofread.
