Since the formation of tumor in hamster by adenovirus type 12, many investigators have studied the titration method of adenovirus type 12 and the other properties of adenovirus type 12(abbreviated as Ad12). Many investigators used HeLa cell, human embryo kidney cell and the other permissive cells for these studies. However, the present study was carried out to investigate the titers of Ad 12 in HeLa, KB, MK and L cells. Especially the titers of Ad12 and Ad5 (Adenovirus type 5) in HeLa and L cell were studied. And then the properties of Ad12 in permissive cells and non-permissive cells were compared. Results were as follows: 1) The orders of titers of Ad 12 in various cell lines were HeLa, KB, MK and L cell. Especially, the titers of Ad 12 in L cell were very lower than the titers of Ad 12 in HeLa cell. 2) Hemagglutinin titers of Ad 12 in L cell were lower than that in HeLa cell. 3) The titers of Ad 12 in HeLa cell were lower than the titers of Ad5 in HeLa cell. 4) The titers of Ad 12 in L cell were significantly lower than the titers of Ad 5 in L cell.
