In this study a continuous cell line was established from the p'rimary culture of trypsin-dispersed kidney cells of a Korean domestic rabbit through serial 30 subcultures over a period of one and half an year, and major characteristics of the established cell line of rabbit kidney was defined. The results are summarized as follows: 1. A continuous line of renal epithelial cell was established from a Korean domestic rabbit by serial 30 subcultures in tissue culture. 2. The cultures of rabbit kidney cells maintained both the typical morphology of epithelial cells and the characteristic monolayed growth during subcultures from the primary to the 30th passages. No apparent changes developed in the growth pattern of established continuous cell line in comparison with those of the primary culture and earlier passages. 3. Chromosome counts made with the cells of the 20th subculture clearly showed the development of aneuploidy during serial subcultures. 4. The cell line could be kept viable up to 6 weeks in frozen state at 30C. 5. Repeated failures of mycoplasma isolation attempts from the cells during subcultures indicated that the cells were free from mycoplasma contamination. 6. Electronmicrographs of the continuous cell line revealed neither the presence of virus-like particles nor the eveidence of mycolasma contamination.
