The purpose of this study is to analyze the rhetoric strategies in the US Congress, Senate speech of 1943 Songmeiling (宋美齡). Songmeiling(宋美齡)’s speech has a special meaning. Through this speech, China has obtained the assistance of the United States. The support gained from the international community in a single speech means that this speech has rhetorical persuasiveness. Therefore I analyzed the speech as rhetorical leverage 5 Steps(Inventio, Dispositio, Elocuito, Memoria, Actio) and 3 elements(Ethos, Logos, Pathos) of rhetorical persuasion.
The 1943 speech was set in the middle of World War II. This was the time when China has a lot of domestic turmoil, including the invasion of Japan. But the power of national independence was a situation that can not reach them. China is in the moment of obtaining the support and assistance of the United States, and Songmeiling (宋美齡) led the full support and financial assistance of the United States in this speech. Meanwhile, in the country, including China and Taiwan, we have had assessing her during the period was limited by political factors. But aside from the political element, a speaker via a single speech got the full support of the audience and led to what she wanted. At this point it is worth noting that the speech needs rhetorical analysis. At the time, the speech was a successful one in political speech. In this paper, I analyzed the factors of success in the rhetorical perspective. The most important point in his speech will sway the hearts of the audience transcends everything. That there would have to be based on the bottom of speaker’s heart. This speech is configured to fit the rhetorical elements, and have achieved the maximum effect of speech.
