The purpose of this study was to analyze the somatotypes and body compositions in korean middle and high school students. Total 165 students, which were randomly selected, were composed of 144 male and 165 female in middle school, and 222 male and 154 female in high school. The results were as follows. 1. The average somatotype of the 1st students in middle school were (4.32, 4.26, 3.10, Mesomorph-endomorph; C type) in males and (5.44, 2.03, 2.75, Endomorphic mesomorph; L type) in females, that of the 2nd students were (4.58, 4.07, 2.87, Centrl; M type) in males and (5.20, 4.00, 2.69; Mesomorphic endomorph; B type) in females, and that of the 3rd students were (3.89, 3.3:x, 3.85, Central; M type) in males and (6.35, 4.53, 2.18, Mesomorphic endomorph; B type) in females. The average somatotype of the 1st students in high school were (3.89, 4.05, 3.15, Central M type) in males and (7.81, 4.08, 2.70, Mesomorphic endomorph B type) in females, that of the 2nd students were (4.17, 3.67, 2.88, Mesomorph endomorph; B type) in males and (7.03, 3.52, 3.15, Balanced endomorph; A type) in females, that of the 3rd students were (4.28, 3.26, 2.83, Balanced endomorph A type) in males and (7.71, 3.48, 2.70, Mesomorphic endomorph; B type) in females. 2. Fat(%)s of body composition in middle school students were decreased in males and increased in females, but in high school students were increased in males and decreased in females, as the age of these were increasing. Fat(%)s were statistically different between sex(p<0.0001). 3. The somatotypes of males in middle school were 25 students in Central(M type) and 121 students in Endomorphic endomorph(L type), but those of females were 54 students in Mesomorphic endomorph(B type) and 46 students in Ectomorphic endomorph(L type). The somatotypes of males in high school were 34 students in Central(M type) and 28 students in Endomorphic ectomorph(G type), but those of females were 73 students in Mesomorphic endomorph(B type) and 46 students in Ectomorphic endomorph(L type). From 13 types of somatotypes, Balanced mesomorph(E type) was not in male students, and Balanced mesomorph(E type), Ectomorphic mesomorph(F type) and Mesomorph-ectomorph(G type) were not in female students. 4. Correlation coefficience between somatotype factor and body composition were similar trend in middle and high school students. Fat(%) were highly correlated with body weight (r=0.61/0.42), endomorphy(1st component, r=0.92/0.96), mesomorphy(2nd component, r=0.45/0.71) and ectomorphy(3rd component, r=-0.64/-0.68). The negative correlation of above was caused by fat type, fat(kg) and body weight.
