Purpose of this study was to compare nutrienl intakes of disabled children and non-disabled children Schects con-sisted of 86 disabled children from a speclal educalion school and I27 non-disabled children from m elementary school in Seoul NuirienI intakes were assessed by modified 2441r recall method, with the help of children ’ s parents and teachers. Almost alI nuthenl intakes (energy, proteln, fai, carbohydrates, vitamin Bi and niacin) ofchlidren With cerebral palsy were slgnificantly lower than those of omer groups But murknt lntakes per body weight of children WIth cerebral palsy were not significaily different With those of other groups There was no significant difference between disabled and non-disabled children in almost % RDA (rate of actual lmake Io RDA) except of energy %RDA m children with cerebral palsy. NARs (nutrient adequacy ratio) for energy and vltamin B| of children with cerebral palsy were slgnl- ficaInly lower than those of chlldren with autism and mental retardatlon, and non-dISabled children The propornons of energy, carbohydrate and protem lntakes from lunch were significanIly hlgher than those from breakfast and dinner ln children with mental retardation and aullSIn- The nutrienl intakes of disabled chlldren were different between other groups according Io the lype of handicap. For example, children with cerebral palsy had Ihe sk of undernutrition-On the other hand, almsilc children had the tendency of overnutrlimn- These results suggesl that nutrition educational proglams and educational materials for disabled children. their teachers and their parents should be developed considering the type of handicap.
