Nowadays, there are few books focused on teaching writing skills in Korean, particularly for beginners. This could be explained by two reasons: 1) There is no considerable time for teaching beginners writing skills in class, and 2) The students are more interested in studying more advanced writing skills. In this paper, we discussed how the contents of writing textbooks should be organized for beginners, by analyzing both difficulties students face in Korean writing and the contents of current writing textbooks. Based on our analysis of writings in Korean from Chinese students (n = 117) learning Korean, we observed that many of them showed limited ability in understanding article contents. Therefore, writing textbooks should be organized to help students promote their knowledge of article contents. In organizing writing textbooks, the author should consider some important learner factors such as students’ developmental stages and their linguistic knowledge, the textbooks’ integrity with other language books, and the order of contents in leading students from controlled writing to free writing. At the end of this study, some implications for writing education are suggested.
