This study is to see whether there are significant differences between Korean businessmen and businesswomen in the 55 hotel selection criteria and 16 criteria for hotel use. A total of 261 business travelers responded were used for the study and women constituted 23.6 percent of the sample. This paper has found that women consider security facilities, room service and low price to be more important, while men are more concerned with the availability of a fax machine, internet use, suite rooms with separate bed and office spaces. The findings on security issues and room service are consistent with previous industry reports indicating that women are concerned with security when selecting hotels. In terms of the use of services and amenities, this study showed that women, are more likely than men to use room service and some special in-room facilities, such as a hair dryer, an iron and ironing board. While this study has found some differences between male and female business travelers, there were also many similarities in hotel-selection criteria and service use including room cleanliness, free local phone use, and no surcharge on long-distance calls, to be important. This study has some limitations in that the sample has been originated by Korean business travelers and sample size is not so reliably ample as to catch the reliable features of hotel selection and use by Korean businessmen and businesswomen. Korean hotel managers and marketers can use the differences in hotel-selection criteria between businessmen and businesswomen to help design their product mix and meet the needs of those customers.
