This study intended to investigate the effects of interview instructions using video and videotaping on the development of English oral competence among Korean undergraduates. The interview instruction procedures included three sessions: pre-interview, first-interview and second-interview. For data collection, the participants were divided into two groups: experimental (n=26) and control group (n=25). The pre-interview session was designed to direct the participants to learn interview and linguistic techniques by watching the four videos. All the participants had two one-to-one interviews and feedback from a native speaker of English during the first- and second-interview sessions. The only difference between the experimental and the control group was that all the interviews of the experimental group during the first interview session were videotaped for the review. The participants" developmental levels of oral competence were evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively. The results indicated that the interview instructions helped the experimental group develop their oral competence more than the control group in regard to non-verbal communication skills.
