In recent years, textbook policy changes have been spurred by attempts to induce the development of high-quality and diverse textbooks in accordance with the national curriculum reforms. In order to investigate how English teachers perceive the recent policy changes, this study conducted a survey of 458 elementary and middle school English teachers and interviews with 8 teachers. The results indicated that teachers were overall positive about the intent of policy changes, which is to meet the diverse needs of students. They also reported improved quality in illustrations and physical make-up of English textbooks. They, nevertheless, expressed concerns over some issues, including textbook selection, size and thickness of textbooks, and the effective use of digital textbooks. The study concludes with some implications for policy makers and directions for further research.
