This research aims to offer basic materials to invigorate multicultural education in religious institutions or churches by investigating recognition of multicultural education of ministers responsible for education in churches. This research will be able to offer basic material for Korean churches to establish direction of multicultural education. This research used questionnaire method as a way of survey. We distributed the questionnaires to 500 ministers selected from those in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon. And collected 270 questionnaires.
The Protestant Ministers` recognition on multicultural education was that it was supposed to be education and training to help multicultural people to adapt to Korean society. There were no significant differences between students and teachers` recognition on multicultural education. Multicultural education is neither the supportive policy for minorities and multicultural people nor the assimilation into Korean society and cultural adaptation. Multicultural education is to live together in equality. To do so, we need to be the thought transformation in the first place.
Multicultural education is not educating a minority of multicultural people, but reforming a number of Korean people. The conclusions of this study cannot be generalized because the subjects of this study are the Protestant pastors, ministry and 270 Churches in Incheon, Seoul, and Gyeonggi areas.
