This study was performed on 15 male students in their 20s at K University. To conduct the experiment, seats were set at different seat heights (low: 92%, medium: 100%, high: 108%) and pedal cleats were placed in different locations (front, middle, back). Maximal rotation, maximal strength per weight, average power per weight, total work per weight, and the angle of hip, knee, and ankle joints at the lowest pedal cleat location during the start and the spurt were then analyzed. Maximal rotation(p<.01), Maximal strength(p<.01), Average power(p<.05), Total work(p<.05)per weight was highest at the medium seat height(100%) and middle pedal cleat location. At the hip joint angle of the lowest pedal cleat during the start, the front pedal cleat location(p<.001), the back pedal cleat location(p<.001), the middle pedal cleat location(p<.05) was significantly higher at the seat heights high. The hip joint angle 116.18±22.39 degrees and knee joint angle 137.76±29.21 degrees and ankle joint 120.50±9.45 degrees of the lowest pedal cleat during the start. At the hip joint angle of the lowest pedal cleat during the spurt, the front pedal cleat location(p<.05), ankle joint angle of the lowest pedal cleat during the spurt, the middle pedal cleat location(p<.05)was significantly higher at the high seat heigh. The hip joint angle 105.16±10.01 degrees and knee joint angle 129.23±12.16 degrees ankle joint 124.73±10.43 degrees of the lowest pedal cleat during the spurt. Unlike previous studies, this study analyzed both seat height and pedal cleat location. The results show that cycling is most efficient at the medium height (100%) and middle pedal cleat location. More detailed and accurate data can be acquired by a long-term experiment with different variables and a wider range of variation in the future.
