The main claim of this paper is that progressives have connotations of dynamism, change, volition, and duration and that they must be understood as factors which induce progressives. One major point of statives is that they have the plus-feature in duration, but have the minus-features in dynamism, change, and volition, which results in the lowest frequency. With respect to semelfactives, on the other hand, it is important to note that they have connotations of dynamism and change, but they have the minus-feature in duration and most of them have the minus-feature in volition, which results in low frequency. Interestingly, accomplishments have connotations of dynamism, duration, and change, but they can have the minus-feature or the plus-feature in volition. Thus, they can obtain higher frequency than progressive statives and progressive semelfactives. A further point to note is that achievements have connotations of dynamism, change, and volition, but they have the minus-feature in duration since they are instantaneous changes of states. This fact offers a plausible reason why achievements obtain higher frequency than other progressives. Finally, activities have all the plus-features in dynamism, duration, change, and volition. By this fact, it becomes clear that they can obtain the highest frequency among achievements, accomplishments, semelfactives, and states.
