Japanese annexation of Korea: The characteristic of the event is notlimited in Japanese expansion policy of colony but have to beunderstood in the view that the Great powers make balance of power inthe East asian region and era through the annexation.
This article aims to examine the procedure of Japanese annexationof Korea in focusing on two points; the change of Great power’s EastAsian policy and Korean people’s recognition to the policy.
For that purpose, The paper analyze the Korean newspapers,Hwangsung-sinmun (Hwangsung Newspaper , 皇城新聞), Daehan-mailsinbo(The Korean daily News, 大韓每日申報) which were under thepressure of Residency-General in peninsular and Shinhanguk-bo(TheUnited Korean News, 新韓國報), Shinhan-minbo(The New Korea, 新韓民報 ) which were published in America.
First, I try to show differences of the Korean newspaper’srecognition and response about Assassination of Ito Hirobumi by AhnJung-geun. The reason of the differences between the newspaper inand outside peninsula were how they recognize the Manchuria problemamong the Great Powers like Russia, Japan.
Second, I review the relation of the second Russo-Japaneseagreement of 1910, concluded in July and the annexation of Korea inAugust of 1910. The two event attracted public attention in the worldand also did to the Korean Newspapers. The Korean Newspaperspublished in America showed their analyze about the events and criticized the the Ilchinhoe(一進會) movement more strictly than the Korean Newspapers published in the circumstance of Press law in peninsular. They suggested republican form of government as neo-Korean polity and inspired the patriotism of Korean in America in the mood of annexation.
