The purpose of this paper is to examine the acceptance aspects of Victor-Marie Hugo’s Les Miserables in children’s literature since liberation. In children’s literary field, Les Miserables was adapted for the first time in 1952. Then Les Miserables for children began to be actively published in the 1960s-1970s. All of these were published as part of The collected(selected) world literary works for children. And these were contraction of the large amount of original text. Due to the vastness of original text, Les Miserables was translated in the form of rewriting or adaptation in children’s literary field. Therefore the acceptance aspects of Les Miserables had difference according to the multi-dimensional elements like cultural situations, subjects of translation and of the anthology of those days. In 1960s plot of Les Miserables for children emphasized wholesomeness rather than adventure. That is due to culture boom of 1960s. In 1970s Les Miserables for children was diversified in terms of the format of a book. That means which is increasingly important how to read this work. And that was forced moral life of Jean Valjean to children. Today, it still remains as such and has influenced children. In other words, the inappropriate canon-formation of Les Miserables in children’s literature has caused misreading by an abridged version since liberation.
