The purpose of this study was to examine gender differences of young child"s relationship between self-regulation and peer interaction. The subjects of this study were 198 four-year-olds, 103 boys and 95 girls who were enrolled thirteen Child Care Centers located in D City and K City Child"s self-regulation was measured by using the SCRS developed by Kendall and Wilcox(1979) and adjusted by Lee(2005). Child"s peer interaction was measured by using the PIPPS developed by Fantuzzo et al.(1995) and adjusted by Choi(2004).For data analyses, t-test, and Pearson"s correlation were conducted. The results of this study were as follows: First, statistically significant gender differences in young children"s self-regulation were found. Girls" self-regulation in self-control, reduction of impulsiveness, and paying concentrated attention was significantly higher than those of boys. Second, statistically significant gender differences in young children"s positive peer interaction were found. Girls" peer interaction was significantly higher than those of boys, while it did not show significant difference in negative peer interaction according to child"s gender. Third, it showed that boys" self-regulation in self-control, reduction of impulsiveness, and paying concentrated attention were related to positive and negative peer interaction. Girls" self-regulation in reduction of impulsiveness, and paying concentrated attention were related to positive peer interaction, while girls" self-regulation in self-control was not related with negative peer interaction. Therefore, teachers should recognize the importance of young child"s relationship between self-regulation and peer interaction and try to cultivate children"s self-regulation and positive peer interaction.
