This is the analysis of the relation of the ancient Japanese culture and Korean peninsula described in the Japanese high school history textbook. It shows a great deal of explanation regarding Korean peninsula from Yayoi era to the first half of Asuka era. On the other hand, in most textbooks, there are very little description of Tongil Silla and Balhae since the 7th century. The disparity in description is due to the trend and viewpoint of Japanese academia. Regarding the Korean peninsula, attempts to maintain the objectivity as well as rich contents can be seen although it also contains the mention of Korea as the Continent culture or the mediation of Chinese culture.
After the 8th century when the Japanese ancient state was established, Japanese culture is described based on the Chinese culture. During this period, there were large amounts of cultural exchange in Japan with Silla and Balhae; however, the evaluation on the Korean culture is relatively low and simple. This tendency is originated in the incorrect perception that Silla and Balhae were subordinated to Japan as described in “Joku Nihonki”. Researchers’ understanding on the relation of the two countries is based on this historical document, which influenced on the description of cultural history with negative evaluation on Korean culture. The problem could be solved through the academic exchange and the discussion between the Korean and Japanese researchers.

본고는 일본고등학교 역사교과서에 서술된 고대일본문화와 한반도와의 관련성을 분석한 것이다. 그 결과 야요이시대에서 아스카시대 전반기에 이르기까지 한반도와의 관련한 서술이 적지 않았다.반면 7세기후반 이후 통일신라와 발해와 관련된 서술은 대부분의 교과서에서 극히 소략하다.
백제의 멸망과 통일신라의 등장을 시점으로 하여 뚜렷한 서술의 차이를 보인 것은 일본학계의 연구경향과 시각에 기인한다고 본다.야요이시대로 부터 4세기에서 7세기후반기의 일본고대국가형성기는 백제를 비롯한 한반도문화의 영향이 절대적이었다.유교,불교문화를 비롯한 사상,제도,기술문화 등 왕권을 유지하고 국가를 운영하는 수많은 문물들이 한반도로부터 일본열도로 유입되었다.한반도와 관련된 서술에서 일괄적으로 대륙문화 속에 편입시키거나 중국문화를 그 원류로서 강조하여 한반도를 매개로하여 전래되었다는 식의 서술도 있지만,전체적으로는 내용도 풍부하게 소개하고 있고 객관성을 유지하려는 노력이 엿보인다
일본의 고대국가가 완성되고 천황제 율령국가가 수립되는 시기의 서술에서는 당문화 중심으로 일본문화를 서술하고 있다.이 시기에 신라,발해와는 수많은 인적,물적 교류가 있었음에도 불구하고 의외로 한반도문화에 대한 평가는 낮고 간단하게 서술되어 있다.이러한 경향은 정치사적인 측면에서 찾아야 할 것 같다. 속일본기 에 나타난 일본의 신라,발해 인식은 일관해서 일본의 종속국으로 보는 잘못된 인식에 있다. 연구자들 역시 이 사료에 매몰되어 당시의 양국관계를 이해하고 있으며 이것이 문화사 서술에도 영향을 주어 한반도문화에 대해 소극적 평가를 내리고 있다. 이 문제의 해결을 위해 이 분야에 대한 국내 연구자들의 축적된 연구성과 및 대응논리가 필요하며 향후 양국 연구자들 간의 학술교류를 통해 의견을 교환한다면 개선될 수 있을 것으로 전망된다.
