Christian worship is one of central actions by the church to God. It is an end in itself, not a means to something else, because its focus is glorifying and enjoying God. The central purpose for the church is the worship of the triune God through the story of the people of Israel and in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So it is the calling of the church to joyfully ascribe all praise and honor, glory and power to the triune God. The church addresses God enters into a dialogue with God, makes statements about its belief in God and symbolizes this belief through a variety of means including words, manufactured objects, ritual gestures and actions.
Worship is fundamentally a theological event, an act of theology, in the sense that its statement and actions are addressed to God and are made about God. Therefore, the act of worship is primary theology in the sense that the experience of worship concerns direct address to God and encounter with God.
We live in an entrepreneurial age and its spirit is alive and well in the church and worship, too. In this aspect, we have to ask what anything is really essential to Christian worship. Christian worship is not simply a blank page to be filled with whatever seems religious, effective, or helpful. In essence, Christian worship is eschatological act to remember God"s action(anamnetic) and to invoke the Holy Spirit(epicletic).
