In 2009 and 2010, new historical materials were found and examined, while the search for new images of Korea"s ancient period continued as well. Evaluation of the contributions of the early generation of pioneering scholars were initiated and are underway, while debates regarding the issue of how to perceive the ancient period of Korea continued as well. Socio-economic studies were not that popular, while political historical studies were attempted by relative newcomers to the academic realm. Historical studies of foreign relations, geography and culture continued and thrived as well.
Also, in analyzing the newly found data, scholars tended to approach them from a wider view and a refreshed angle based upon comparative studies of cases found inside East Asia. Such attempts were made especially in the areas of historical studies regarding society, economy, foreign relations and culture. Comparative studies should be more encouraged, as it could reveal important aspects of the ancient period of Korea in the context of the entire East Asian history. Also, various periods inside the Korean history were analyzed as well, and hopefully in the future such attempts would shed some light upon the matter of defining the real position of the ancient period inside the history of Korea.
