This article analyzes the coastwise route of the south-west sea in Koryo Dynasty. Though it could be easily anticipated that there are no differences between the coastal route of Joseon Dynasty and that of Koryo, it would be valuable to redefine the route from the view point of the history of the Koryo Dynasty.
In Second chapter, several resources (the name of coastal region of the era, the system of counties and prefectures of the coastal region, excavation results in the sea, the records of the pirate plunder etc.) were used for estimating the coastal course because of the deficiency of raw materials. In third chapter, the total networks of the routes of the south-west sea could be described with the routes disclosed by previous researches and with the results estimated in chapter two. The coastal routes and the name of regions are shown in the end of the each clause and the concrete results could be seen on the maps.
This essay did not consider all of the coastal routes of the dynasty because it's main purpose is to show the course from the south east regions to Gea-Gyeong. But it is valuable to review the coastwise routes of the south-west sea and main place and it is also worthy to disclose the fact that the shipping strongholds were located at the bays.
