With the rapid growth in science and other industries, the number of hazardous materials is also increasing. Accordingly the increase of transporting these materials brings out many accidents. Since transporting hazardous materials not only gives threats to public safety, but also it could cause great casualties and damages to properties, precautionary measures are more crucial issue than safety measures. However, the regulations on transporting dangerous goods are not explicitly established, thus a proper countermeasures against the hazardous material transportation is lack of management.
In this study, the reduction alternatives for decreasing transportation accidents of hazardous materials are suggested. Also, the reduction alternatives of accidents are sorted by topic and the analysis of each alternative's effect is carried out based on risk evaluation function. The proper alternative will give proper effect in decreasing accident and 2nd effect of these hazardous materials. With the results from this study, the decision makers can apply proposed alternatives into hazardous transportation situations.
