Cui. Guo-fu was a High Tang poet well-known for vue-fu poems. His yue-fu poems make up twenty-seven of Cui's forty-one surviving poems. Through these poems, Cui criticized unreasonable reality in the royal court and aristocracy; sovereigns of easy virtue, court ladies in deep grief and grudge, and prodigal sons of noble families and expressed commoners' life and emotions too; boudoir ladies' sadness at parting with their beloved ones, the true love between Jacks and Gills and otherwise. We can identify that during the living in peaceful and glorious time of Kai-yuan and Tian-bao, Cui tried to focus on the social irrationality and contradiction rather than 'the High Tang's Spirit' that distinguished the time from others. This means that Cui put his thoughts and emotions based on his experiences into his yue-fu. not in any imitation. although the quatrain folk songs of the Southern Dynasties influenced Cui's yue-fu. That gave his yue-fu more individuality and creativity than the previous quatrain folk songs. and brought compliments on his works from many critics including Yin-Fan. Cui's yue-fu poems influenced on Li-Bai, Liu, Yu-xi, Li, Shang-yin and others. especially on Heo, Nanseol-heon in Chosun Dynasty. This tells us that Cui's works should not only be dealt with in the history of chinese poetry and literature. but needs to be discussed with full profound from the comparative point of view between Korean and Chinese literature.
