This study analyzed the current status and problems of the cultural industry in the Jeju area, and suggested measures for the cultivation of the knowledge-based cultural industry in the Jeju area as a local development strategy based on E. Porter's Value-Chain Model. To this aim, in order to find out propagation effect and influence of the cultural industry that might create high value added, on the economy of the Jeju area, the analysis was executed by the use of input-output analysis and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) methodologies. As a result of the analysis, the knowledge-intensive local cultural industry was proven to be an industry that might maximize cultural and economic effects of the Jeju area where manufacturing industry-base is poor as a clean area, further, it was analyzed to be an industry that might generate high value added under the future industry structure of Jeju. In addition, it was demonstrated that the propagation effect and influence of such knowled ge-based cultural industry highly affect diverse industries, thus, it is very likely that the knowledge-based cultural industry of the Jeju area will be a strategy for exports, and the more, it is anticipated that the implementation of the industry will contribute to enhance both national and local images as well as competitiveness.
