How are Christians to show “real love” to an enemy? Romans 12:14-21 demonstrate love to enemy using the image of heaping coals of fire. This paper try to find out Paul’s theology of ‘love to enemy’ according to Romans chapter 12. Romans 12 is situated at the beginning of a distinct and major sub-division of the epistle, chapters 12-15, where Paul turns directly to the issue of christian ethics for the first time. Although this chapter marks an important shift, it is logically and thematically connected with the whole chapters of Romans. Paul understands the potential of Christian ethical conduct as being rooted in God’s mercy, a topic that had dominated his main argument of Romans and must be understood in relation to the themes, God’s justice(δικαιοσυνη θεου) stated in 1:16-7. There are many interpretations what does “heaping coals of fire” means? I follow that is an image of looming divine vengeance. To prove this, the theme, ‘love to enemy’ have conducted on the literary and historical relationship between Pauline correspondence and the synoptic gospels and their sources. The striking formulation and memorable pairing of blessing and cursing may have enabled this saying to achieve the status of a proverb which could have circulated widely among early Christian community in a number of different forms. The investigation shows that Paul played a role in maintaining and transmitting at least some portion of traditions about Jesus and teaching ascribed to him. The motivation of ‘love to enemy’ base on to believe and assure God’s justi fied judgement in the future. The assurance of God’s ultimate justice frees radical love. How are Christians to show “real love” to an enemy? Paul show us the answer in Romans ch.12. Love is demonstrated when wrath is left to God and kindness is shown in response to the enemy’s need.
