This article has a purpose to consider ‘The grey man’ with a ‘close-reading’. And It focuses on the thesis of the ‘revolution’ in 1960th South Korea that was repeatedly represented in this fiction. I want to invented a new method to examine this fiction.
Two characters in this fiction, Kim Hak and Dokko Jun have contrast perspective each other on the revolution. For Kim, revolution is optimistic but for Dokko, it is pessimistic. Especially Dokko keeps to a assertion that the revolution will be impossible in South Korea. But Kim and Dokko have same position on the revolution as a result. This is a kind of 4?19 representation of the author and presents a thought of a possiblity or a limit of the revolution in this time.
Now to conclude, the interest and passion on ‘writing’ of Dokko means the following. That is to say, it is the main subject of the author that the writing should be alternate the revolution in actual world.
