This paper examines the relationship between the change of media and the type of community in terms of the politics of communication. In particular, this essay focuses on the arguments of Marshall McLuhan, Walter J. Ong and Benedict Anderson, and investigates their truthfulness and relevancy. My findings are as follows: Above all, I agree with their assumptions and classification of the ages based on the prevailing human sense, and with their conclusion that tactility is the most important sense and that rationality comes from the ratio, i.e. balance among five human senses. However, I want to revise or add two points on their arguments. First, even though their predictions are plausible to a degree, the global village, which comes from the combination of orality and literacy in the disital age, is not the same kind of tribalization in the ancient age characterized by synesthesia. In other words, the community in the global age is not a community of homogeneous unity but rather a community of solidarity among heterogeneities. Second, the combination between orality and literacy does not simply bring out the high possibility of the global village. It is true that the combination increase the possibility, but the politics of communication will not come true unless tactility is obtained in the process. In the disital age, it is our task to make the globe a community balanced and combined among diverse human senses.
