Since the culture of Balhae had accepted Dang's culture based on traditional Kokuryeo' s culture, It has the pan of Kokuryeo from Ondol equipment Art pattern Tomb mode Handwriting, etc. Especially, the characteristic of Maksae(end pieces of a roof-tiling) and an image of Buddha of Balhae took the old rite which came into fashion in Bukjo(Notth dynasty period of China) or Kokuryeo earlier than comtemporary Dang dynasty. In Balhae's letters, it itself is Yeseo(ornamental characters) like 〈the Great King Kwanggaeto Monument〉.
The letters as the culture of the governing class at that time can be observed via the handwriting of the letters. The description culture of the ruling class in early Balhae foundation tells you who is me founder of Balhae. The writing style used in me letters of Balhae is two types at large. They can be divided into me former term and me latter term according to whether Dang's calligraphy had been accepted or not during King Moon's exchange with Dang dynasty. The former term can be observed through me inscription of most roof-tiling and the latter term can be figured out via 〈Prinecess Junghye tombstone〉 〈Princess Junghyo tombstone〉. The style of the letters which belonged to me foemer term of Balhae was me style of Yeseo(ornamental character) of 〈me Great King Kwanggaeto Monument〉 of Kokuryeo or me style of Bukjo (North dynasty of ancient China) of 〈Old Tomb Wall Painting Inscription〉 By me analysis of calligraphical stroke and calligraphical construction, it was figured out mat me description culture of the goveming class of Balhae was the description culture of Kokuryeo and the ruling class was people of Kokuryeo.
At mat time, Dang or tribe Han of Jungwon is me heyday of d1e culture of Haeseo(the printed style of writing). The calligraphy of Yeseo which was used in Dang can be seen only on Dujeon of a tombstone. Furthermore, the most calligraphy was not Yeseo but Palbunche. In this point of view, It can be observed that early Balhae did not yet accepted Dang's calligraphy. In other words, what the linage of Buddha in Balhae and Yonwhamoon yoadang(the roof-tiling with the shape of a lotus flower) showed the tradition of Kokuryeo is to prove that Buddhism of Balhae adhered to tradition of Kokuryeo in tbe former term and also in a handwriting, the description culture of Kokuryeo was demonstrated as it was. The culture of early Balhae focused on the culture of Kokuryeo, and as Dang's culture was accepted since the middle of 8C, it was changed more variously.
