Jeong, JI Yong who was born in the Japan Occupation Era, is the poet who experienced various alienation of modernity. He in particular realized negative violences of modernity stirred from Kanto big earthquake and then returned to the native land. At first he was interested in Europe modernism, but soon began to pursue the unselfish mind based in traditional mind of the Orient, seeing that he experienced negative sides of modernity through Japanese imperialism.
First, it is considered that he pursued the idle natural quietness and subjugation because he wished to restore human identity damaged from real alienation. Secondly the consciousness that he recurred in Oriental pure nature and feeling is an expression of the life consciousness to protect pure sex of life from the world of violence corrupted by material greed.
I think this topic is very important in the sense that we must restore organic circulation in nature isolated by the scientific development. He recognized deeply that human identity and mind are damaged fundamentally, when the violent element began to penetrate in the capitalism by the theory of evolution. He experienced the negative side more than the positive aspect of modern times through a barbaric act of a Japanese imperialism. Afterwards he wanted to revive the traditional Oriental mind, abandoning the modernity and enlightenment characteristics of modern times.
In this way Jeong, JI Yong became the new guidepost of the postmodern consciousness in Korean literature that is going to restore predominance and dignity characteristics of existence. He searched to connect Oriental thought in darkness of the modern times to tradition and poetry. It may be said that to incarnate Oriental spiritualism alive creatively, and to balance human beings and idle nature have much significance in Korean modern literary history.
