One of the most prominent characteristics of the literature in the period of Yuan's intervention is that the tendency of writing poetry and prose toward focusing on Koryo's geographical names and historical affairs was flourishing among literary men who had contacted Chinese culture.
Mokeun saw people of Koryo absurdly discriminated against while studying for three years in the Midlands, and recognized the excellence of Koryo culture which was not inferior to that of the Midlands.
As a result, writing our country's history and people as subject matter escaping from the view of China-centrism, Mokeun showed a true perception of forming our unique culture and tradition. In addition, he wrote poetry using Korea's geographical names, customs, foods, proverbs as subject matters, and a native tongue as poetic words. It is also a phenomenon that originated from the pride of Koryo history and tradition.
Ikjae's encouragement was the accelerant of Mokeun' s recognition, which also corresponded with the atmosphere resting on Koryo society.
This tendency must be the result of the understanding in which it is more important to incorporate our unique subject matter and philosophy, reflecting on the past when imitating Chinese poetry and prose, using Chinese history as subjects, and making great effort to approach what Chinese see and think.
