When a dynasty was founded for the first time, several reasons existed for succeeding to a legitimate nation: First, the subjects of the new dynasty had to be the descendents of the past dynasty. Second, the new dynasty had justification in succeeding from the past dynasty; for instance, the people of the new dynasty were those from the past dynasty. And third, the new dynasty had special relationships with the past dynasty. KoRyo had all these three reasons to succeed from Koguryo, especially the first and second are such cases.
Koguryo was founded in 37 B. C. and ruined in 668, and Koryo was founded in 918 and ruined in 1392. So there were 250 years of a gap between the ruin of Koguryo and the foundation of Koryo, which was as Koguryo and Koryo. Especially called the Unified Silla Dynasty. The people of the previous Koguryo and Baekje were thought of being assimilated during the period of the new dynasty, nevertheless Koguryo and Koryo were thought to be totally two different nations.
Since I started to study on the history of Koryo foundation, however, I have noticed that Koryo and Koguryo had a very close relationship. That is; 1) Wang Keon and his people who founded Koryo were the people of the Koguryo who came from around Mt, Baekdu, 2) after the fall of Koguryo and BaekJe, the people of those dynasties were not assimilated with Silla, but called Koguryo people' or 'BaekJe people', And 3) based on the spirit of reconstructing their own nations, they founded Hu-Koguryo and Hu-baekje.
I found that, before the Middle Ages in Korea and China, Koguryo was used together with Koryo in the history books. And through the study on reconstructing their own nation after the fall of KoguRyo, I was finally convinced of a close relationships between Koguryo and Koryo.
I, therefore, confirmed that the foundation of Koryo was the result of reconstruction movement for Koguryo And we have taken over Koryo through the Chosun dynasty. So the people of Koguryo are our ancestors and we have inherited Koguryo in view of consanguinity, history and culture.
I have indicated several times that Koryo was the result of reconstruction movement for Koguryo and had the spirit of Koguryo. This not only makes clear a simple fact in the past, but also refutes and corrects the statement that Koguryo was one of China's local powers and the history of Koguryo was part of the history of China. So I think we need to consider and discuss the fact mentioned above matter deeply and closely.
