이 논문은 세종의 문예감성文藝感性이 치세治世에 어떻게 활용되었는지 살핀 연구이다. 세종은 음악과 춤, 시와 문학 등의 문예 등에 탁월한 업적을 이루어냈다. 그동안 세종이 이룬 업적의 내용과 과정 등에 관해서는 다양한 관점에서 연구되었지만 세종의 문예감성의 형성 및 치세에 미친 영향 등은 세심하게 다루어진 예가 거의 없었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 세종 시대에 주관한 여러 가지 연회의 내용을 파악하고, 세종의 문예감성이 연회를 통해 발현된 성과를 살폈다. 세종은 유년시절부터 문예감성을 풍부하게 경험하였다. 예술과 기예에 정밀하였다는 평가를 받았다. 특히, 음악면에서는 역사상 비할 바 없는 업적을 남겼는데 사적인 탐닉에 빠지거나 스스로 예술가의 경지에 다다르는 쪽으로는 발현되지 않았다. 세종은 즉위초의 여러 가지 갈등 상황들을 춤과 눈물이 있는 감성적인 연회로 풀었고, 집현전의 학사를 비롯한 여러 관리들을 위해 자주 연회를 개최하였다. 또 백성과 친하고, 더불어 즐기겠다는 이상을 양로연養老宴을 통해 펴 보였고, 국가 인재人才들을 우대하는 은영연恩榮宴을 베푸는 등 여러 계층의 백성과 술과 음식을 나누고, 음악과 춤을 즐겼다. 더 나아가 신하들이 시를 짓고 그림에 관심을 갖게 하는 등의 문예활동을 진작시켰는데, 이는 신하들로 하여금 고전적이며 이상적인 군신창화君臣唱和의 체험으로 받아들여지기도 했다. 이처럼 세종이 신하와 함께 한 연회에서 효와 우애를 실천하는 ‘본’을 보이고, 군신과 스스럼없이 어울려 마음을 얻는 한편, 신하들의 임금과 나라를 위해 일하는 보람을 누리게 함으로써 ‘열정’과 ‘창조’를 이끌어냈다는 점에서 세종의 연회는 집현전 이상으로 중요한 치세의 무대였다고 할 수 있을 것이다.
The purpose of this paper is to study the King Sejeong's literary emotional leadership and its influence in his reign. King Sejeong's remarkable achievements in the renaissance of music, dance, poetry and literature were widely recognized. There have been a number of researches and studies covering the contents and process of Sejeong's great works from the diverse perspectives, however, the cases on the details of the formation of the literary emotion and its impact of the Sejeong's political philosophy had rarely existed so far. In the result of the study, I found the activity of giving banquets was considered as an important element in King Sejeong's reign and often was employed it as new political strategies. In this point of view, in this paper, I investigated the various styles of the banquets in Sejeong regime and reviewed the impact of the literary emotion to King Sejeong's political philosophy. Specifically, my interest lied on the examination of the feast for the aged, a ceremony for all the people, yangno-yeon, which was rooted and serried down in the Sejeong's period. This is because that I found King Sejeong attempted to realize his political ideal through the feast for the old age people. Now, let me make summary of the main idea of this paper. King Sejeong was a person who had a plentiful experience of the literal emotion and had shown the excellency in the arts from his childhood. His achievement especially in the area of music was an uncomparable throughout the whole history of Jeseon Dynasty but his enthusiasm for music was dearly identified with the personal indulgence. For example, the emotional experience of Sejeong which was formed through the banquet ceremonies different from that of his elder brother, prince Yangyeong, who was a music and dance maniac. Prince Yangyeng was kind of a person who was addicted to music and women, and finally he had to give back his crown from the position of prime prince because of his pursuit of pleasure. While the entertainment-oriented life of prince Yangyeong was being worries to the royal family and the nation, those of Sejeong was considered as an object of praise and interest. That meant that Yangyoung's hedonic life out of self-control was the object of precaution but the activities for the purpose of sharing the pleasure of appreciation of the literal works with others were socially encouraged and recommended. In the regime of King Sejeong, the ceremony of banquets provided a good chance to express the King's love for his subjects and people, and also a good way to enlighten the noble attributes such as royalty for the nation and a dutiful manner to parents and so on. I suppose King Sejeong recognized the benefit of the banquet ceremony and so he liked to give a various type of banquets supplying plentiful foods and drinks. In general, the banquets used be a place for encouraging scholars and literary men to write poems and to draw a paintings. Indeed, this sort of banquets had been forwarded to the manner of hospitality for royal guests from foreign countries so it is possibly to say it contributed to improving the nation's diplomatic circumstances . I believe, the ceremony of banquets had taken the second most important role in Sejeong's period, next to Chiphy?nj?n, the Hall of Worthies, At the banquets, King Sejeong himself had been a live example who performed the spirit of filial duty and the fraternity, so that he received great trust and support from his servants. Additionally, he succeeded in drawing the enthusiasm and creativity from the subjects, encouraging them to devote themselves to the nation which led them feel full of self-esteem. In short, I would like to conclude King Sejeong was an excellent leader who had a high level of EQ and who had known to utilize the ceremony of the banquets as an employment of emotional adminstration strategy.
