This paper is focussed on the Korean reflexive caki and its preference reading. We argue in this paper that an antecedent whose dependent term induces variable binding is more prominent than an antecedent whose dependent term induces coreference and that a preference reading results from these anaphoric relations between an antecedent and its dependent term. We discuss the cases related to a preference reading induced by the Korean reflexive caki and propose that they fall on our semantic analysis. The basic idea is that binding is in some sense preferable to coreference. If a dependent term is used to express a given proposition either by binding or coreference, then two antecedents are in competition and we expect to find that binding is preferred over coreference. This kind of analysis is supported by the fact that the Korean reflexive caki is non-locally bound by two antecedents. Therefore, we assume in this paper that QR may apply to any kind of NPs (Heim 1991, 1992), so that it can make a distinction between binding and coreference for any NPs.
