There are two kinds of trend based on a worship of the stronger or powerful foreign cultures in relation with the linguistic problems in Korea. The ons is a worship of the stronger or powerful foreign languages, the other is a worship of the foreign linguistic theories which we can see its tradition from Yi-dynasty to present days.
The worship of the foreign languages has been changed to a worship of English at the end of 20th century. And then this trend is a governing one in the practical speaking or writing nowadays, and corrupts or destroys Korean vocabularies, sentences, etc. together with another two pragmatic tendencies; communication by rough expression and pursuit of novel or strange expression. Therefore Korean peoples are beset by the corrupt linguistic environment, and a Korean linguistic ability of them is seriously degraded in result.
In order to correct and improve this undesirable linguistic situation Korean linguistics has to fulfill its responsibility in leading position. Especially Korean linguistics must look for a theoretical model based on the agglutinating languages but not the inflecting languages which is a linguistic basis of the American descriptive-structural grammar, and reorganize Korean grammatical system in tenns of that model. Such a Korean grammatical system is the analytic one but not the formal-synthetic one. The analytic system regards the particles and inflectional suffixes that are dependent morphemes and so constituents of the minimum free forms as the minimum syntactic units, ie. the ultimate constituents of sentences in different way from the formal-synthetic system’s.
This system reflects exactly the formal and functional properties of the Korean particles and inflectional suffixes which are agglutinating elements. And because of a simplicity and reasonability in description and explanation of the grammatical phenomena connected with the paπicles and inflectional suffixes, it is the more adequate grammatical system of Korean than any other. So that this system has an advantage or a utility in the education and practice of Korean language.
