This study explores the relationship of demand for children, women's education and family planning accessibility to contraceptive adoption. The data are from Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey, 1990-91. The major findings are that women who are school-educated, more mobile and well informed about the sources of health care and family planning, are less likely to desire additional children. Women's education, unlike the desire for additional children, show significantly positive effect on current use of contraception. Still, the knowledge of family planning source has the greatest effect on use. The social, cultural and physical constraints, regarding contraceptive adoption, faced by women in the rural-urban context of Pakistan are discussed.
