This study was conducted to verify the japanophilismic trait of 「Cheon-Maek」 written by Jung-Hei Choi. In the late 1930s, Japanese imperialism adopted national mobilization system for a war footing. They tried to inculcate Korean people with colonialism. Elementary school was institutionalized as compulsory education. And maternity was emphasized. Therefore 「Cheon-Maek」 must be read in the consideration of these times background. 「Cheon-Maek」 revealed the war mobilization ideology by describing women who teach and take care of Korean children to grow up as Janpaness loyal nation.
Yeon-e was a modern woman but could not free herself from the fetters of feudalism that was a properties of Korean society. She remarried Dr. Hur and after the death of her first husband. She showed the dependance on another man to compensate her lack of paterfamilias but came up against old tradition as a educated modern woman. She left her home to look for her son and her identity. She became mother of all children who would grow up as Japanese loyal nation working in a nursery school. Through this behavior, she restore her own identity and sense of duty. After all what Yeon-e chose was powerful ideology, in other word, Japanese imperialism. In conclusion, the writer was saying that Korean women and children in the late 1930s could establish their identities by participating the Japanese loyal nation project.
