Gilles Deleuze emphasizes the continuous variation of language, insisting that to place the statement in the continuous variation is to send it through all the prosodic, semantic, syntactical, and phonological variables that can affect it in the shortest moment of time. Language will start vibrating and stuttering when passing the continuous zone of the variation. He calls this continuous variation a generalized chromaticism that offers pragmatism its intensities and values. He approaches a style, which is the procedure of a continuous variation, for the generalized chromaticism.
In this sense, this paper is dedicated to the variation of language and gesture. Firstly, this paper explicates the generalized chromaticism that captures language as the continuous variation and defines it as the complex of various variations, and analyzes the generalized chromaticism in Bene's plays. Secondly I look into the three variations of style that approach in the way Deleuze makes a writing musical. According to Deleuze, the three variations of style consist of making language stammer, being a foreigner, and being bilingual, multilingual. Thirdly this paper expands the generalized chromaticism into Bene's theater. Indeed, Deleuze implies that the generalized becoming of Bene's drama renders it an essentially musical theater and brings about plane of consistence.
